"....a mix of shoegaze and post rock with beautifully mellow vocals and menacing undertones, displaying a knack for delivering the rock goods while keeping the pace slow and steady with dynamics loud then soft, pretty downer music that manages to go interesting places even when its drenched in monotonous sludge." - Noise Pop

"True Widows brand of slowcore is sedated, minimalist, and dark. Sometimes theyre damn near morbid. Lumbering verses lead to choruses that flicker with life, reaching for hooks like a hand pushing out of the dirt." - Adequacy.net

The end of times is a concept that has been with mankind since he first began daubing blood and ash on cave walls, and now Brooklyns heaviest of hitters A Storm Of Light are picking up the baton with their latest masterpiece, Forgive Us Our Trespasses.

The band have already proven themselves master storytellers, their acclaimed 2008 debut And We Wept The Black Ocean Within sending shockwaves through the avant metal underground with its bracken-draped tales of seafaring woe and this years Primitive North collaboration with Nadja cementing their status as leading lights in the ever-shifting realms of metals experimental fringes.

Forgive Us Our Trespasses showcases a more refined sound and a significant broadening of scope, the band leading the listener on a millennial journey that sees the modest curls of smoke rising from nomadic campsites gradually replaced by the billowing smokestacks of industry before being cast down and consigned to the soil once more as the planet rouses from its aeon-long slumber.

“All you really have to do is look around you to see where things are headed,” muses guitarist, vocalist and in-house artist Josh Graham, “the album basically charts humankinds journey toward oblivion as the planet awakens and tips the scales back in its own favour. Needless to say, the outlook for humanity in all of this isnt exactly too bright.”

When youre setting ideas like this to music, it’s almost certain that the outcome is going to be heavy, but Graham makes clear that this latest opus isnt mere garden-variety post-metal. “I think we have really managed to move above and beyond what anyone might have expected of us this time around,” he says. “I dont think it is heavy in the ‘obvious’ sense, since we are not just relying on the weight of the riffs to make our mark. Instead, we are weaving all these different elements together until they are just about at breaking point, and that, to us, is where the real intensity lies.” Its this dense bringing together of melodies, moods and textures that lends the album its power, ensuring that while things are as heavy and cataclysmic as fans would expect, the result relies on interwoven melodies and graceful shifts in timbre for its devastating effects instead of a simpleminded stream of identikit riffs.

As ever, the confluence of influences and ideas is pooled from a wide array of sources, from Alan Weismans “The World Without Us”–a thought-provoking treatise on a world freed from the polluting burden of humanity–to the sense of struggle and hardship found in traditional American folk music and onto the heraldic language of national anthems. “To me they just seemed like perfect examples of human arrogance,” says Graham of this latter source of inspiration. “When you really start examining the words in detail, the possessive language and sheer sense of entitlement just about blows your mind.”

The trio–comprising Graham, Domenic Seita, and Joel Hamilton–are joined by a host of carefully chosen collaborators that sees the trios roiling turbulence complemented by the sombre tones of vocalist and Primitive North collaborator Nerissa Campbell, the unique talents of Jarboe (Swans, World Of Skin, J2), the otherworldly spoken word segues of singer, poet and author Lydia Lunch and the mournful strings of Carla Kihlstedt (Book Of Knots, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), Marika Hughes on cello, and Andy Rice on drums.

The results are as startlingly grand and climactic as the story they seek to tell, a churning clamour of bruise-blue guitar chords and subtle synth swells, rumbling bass notes and gossamer cello motifs all woven carefully around Grahams harrowed cry as the band evoke mankinds tireless trudge toward oblivion.

Equal parts funerary lament and celebration, Forgive Us Our Trespasses represents a series of brutal acts of beauty that surge and combine to announce a great sweeping aside, a reclamation of all that is lost before the tides calm, the land settles and the long, peaceful period of healing and rebirth may begin, a sense of quiet triumph descending upon the shattered, empty cities that must now simply lie and wait while the sun slowly gutters out and all is once again cold and dark and still.

Everyone comes from somewhere, but some people wear the cities they’re from like badges of honour. Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, one of those people whose identity is intrinsically connected to his hometown – New York City. And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rock’n’roll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 606’s TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego “Curses!”). Drop The Lime’s influences range from Brian Eno to rockabilly (he’s well known for his 50s doo wop and soul sets) to Sonic Youth to Wu Tang but things don’t just stop there. He also runs Trouble & Bass, an influential New York club night and label since 2006. The Trouble & Bass crew are the DJs who are defining a new New York sound. “Having a crew from NYC behind you, pushing the sound you produce, is essential in creating a movement. We’re all producers and DJs so sometimes we’ll collaborate on production—or I’ll have one of them help out with one of my basslines – since they understand my sound better than anyone else”. 2008 has been a year of serious breakthroughs for Drop the Lime; a moment when the talented lad who stuck to his guns in making bass heavy tunes to slay dancefloors all over the world has finally started to make it to the bigtime. It all started with a remix for Pop darling Robyn, who was so impressed with his work she took him on tour, introducing him to a whole new audience. Next on the list was London superclub Fabric. They were so gobsmacked by his DJ skills and vocals (yep, he sings like a bad boy Sinatra as he plays) that they instantly offered him a Main Room residency – a move that packs the club out every time. Moving along with a massive set at Coachella, a hugely successful North American and Australian headline tour and suddenly we’re at the summer of 2008, and Drop the Lime is killing it with summer festival dates around the UK at the likes of Lovebox, Creamfields and V Festival. He’s also somehow found the time to complete remixes for Moby, Blaqstarr, Rex the Dog and Midnight Juggernauts, as well as writing songs with Diplo and Herve. No the wonder the likes of MSTRKRFT, DJ Mehdi, Switch, Diplo, Sinden and ATrak are raving about him. Drop the Lime’s new single, Hear Me, drops on Trouble & Bass worldwide in October. The dancefloor filler with its dreamy chorus featuring Luca’s own husky crooning comes with remixes from the new mob of AC Slater, Drums of Death, and Kuduro superstars, Buraka Som Sistema – tree names that will be ruling 2009. With an album out in June 2009 one can only expect things to get even crazier for New York’s brightest new star.

Matias Aguayo lives between Buenos Aires and Paris, djing, making music, performing concerts alone and together with Marcus Rossknecht with their project "BROKE!". Born 73 in Santiago de Chile he musically grew up in Cologne, Germany, where he spent the whole 90ies living and contributing to the scene of this city which would have such a deep influence on dancemusic. He was there, as clubkid and dj (e.g. of the legendary Liquid Sky Club) experiencing the creation of new musical styles and contributing by organizing parties and being involved in musical productions such as the project Zimt (w/ Michael Mayer, 1997). Soon he would come up with a new project: Closer Musik (w/ Dirk Leyers). Touring from disco to disco and around the world, performing livesets which also took him to Buenos Aires, Argentina - where he stayed for some time and never really left, organizing temporary free club spaces like the "juventud clandestina" (clandestine youth) and the "hoy" club - a period reflected in Matias' Album "Are You Really Lost" (Kompakt, 2005). His main activity nowadays consists in making free parties on the streets together with his friends Ladybumbox, Gary and Pablo, the legendary "bumbumbox" parties in capitals and big cities of Southamerica (Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Asuncion in Paraguay, Sao Paulo, Medellin in Colombia, Santiago de Chile, etc...) In his djsets (which are partly livesets, considering the integration of singing and a couple of instruments), Matias celebrates his vision of dancemusic, with intensity and sensuality, nights where people dance to dark disco gems, futuristic visions of underground house, nocturnal and groovedriven techno, and obviously lots of unreleased tracks, dancing and singing on top included... Matias Aguayo is now working on a new album, new releases of 12" are soon about to come on Kompakt and on Souljazz Records... Check out the label he is doing now with the bumbumbox - friends and fresh artists from latin america such as REBOLLEDO (Monterrey, Mexico), DJs PAREJA (Buenos A(Santiago de Chile) and more...

PowerSolo return with an album that cuts to the bone. 12 songs in 30 minutes just like the good old days. BLOODSKINBONES. Blood, skin and bones. Tendons, nerves, muscles and not so much as a gram of excess fat on a skeleton that can be seen and felt. Very much in tune with the Jeppesen brothers’ bodies, which grace the cover. The railthin brothers, Kim Kix and Atomic Child, are once again a duo after the group’s drummer of five years, JC Benz, pulled the plug to focus on his sound studio and family. Benz has however still been on drum duty on BLOODSKINBONES, which was also recorded in his studio. Three men in one room. Drums and two guitars and then a dozen songs that want you no good and go straight for the throat. This is PowerSolo in their natural habitat – just like they are live, where they have earned an incomparable reputation for being a full- on, intense and always entertaining band.

In the three years since PowerSolo’s last studio album Egg the band has been touring intensively both by themselves as well as with kindred spirits Heavy Trash (Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray) in the countries where the record is available: 4 tours in the USA, 2 in Great Britain, 2 in France, Benelux, Germany, Iceland, Sweden and Norway – and several more around their homestead of Denmark.

PowerSolo has also recorded a soundtrack to the movie Himmerland (2008), contributed to a tribute album for cult producer Joe Meek, and have as backing band recorded songs for two whole albums with Heavy Trash. On top of all that, the brothers Kim and Bo have recorded Kim and the Cinders’ debut album, which was released in August 2008.

But it is in the flagship PowerSolo, where the brothers’ completely unique style is most clearly conveyed. Over the top, but not trying to be clever. Catchy, but never pleasing. Instead of middle-of-the-road Powersolo drives off-road. Jump in and put BLOODSKINBONES on the stereo. Turn up the volume and say a prayer. Atomic Child Bo and Kim Kix will guarantee you an unsafe ride on the shortest way home.

“Massive and mobile, revved-up and smirking wired manic relentlessness with polished precision musicianship and plenty of gratuitous sonic elegance and refinement within their genre-shifting role playing. But no matter what they try these guys can really make it come to life. So good it’s ridiculous!” - Dream Magazine

“Tunes about truckin,’ fuckin’, and NASCAR, mopey C&W, amphetamine-laced rockabilly, and a jewel-case picture of the band hanging off a tractor in the middle of a farm field. Where else could Powersolo call home than Aarhus, Denmark?” - Illinois Entertainer

In the mid-1990's, Weedeater arose from the ashes of the southern-drug-lord-band Buzzov-en, who had disbanded along the swampy shores of the Cape Fear river in North Carolina not too long before. Fronted by famed madman and bass virtuoso "Dixie" Dave Collins, this three piece doom juggernaut has been eating audiences alive for more than 10 years now. After two critically acclaimed full length releases under their belts recorded by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Melvins, High On Fire, etc.) and released respectively on Berserker and Crucial Blast Records, the latest and highly anticipated album, entitled "God Luck And Good Speed" is due out in July of 2007 on Southern Lord Recordings. All but one of the songs on the album were recorded and produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Neurosis, High On Fire, Nirvana, etc.) at Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. The sound is gigantic and both the production and recording skillfully capture the intense experience of a Weedeater show while achieving tones that will swallow you whole. The remaining track, "Alone", was recorded by Mike Dean (Corrosion of Conformity) and simply consists of an acoustic bass track, a banjo track, and vocally some of Dixie's best somber and sub-baritone rasping. The mastering was executed by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, Pelican, etc.) and the finished product is nothing short of amazing.
